Colours

Red – Red is the colour of passion. It helps to increase drowsiness. Increases blood pressure and poor blood circulation. The tones include burgundy, plum, magenta, purple and pink. The darker the colour the smaller it can make a room look if used as a feature wall. Bright red should be used with care in places of rest as it is awakening and reviving.

Earthy Tones – Earthy tones include yellow, mustard, creams, beige, terracotta and browns. Yellow is the colour of intellect and is highly recommended in a study or office. It’s the colour of happiness and generates warmth. Another earthy tone is orange which is the colour of communication. This is a fantastic colour to use in a meeting room, clinic or dining room. It can also help a shy introverted person and can be used in their room to help to bring them out of their shell. It can help to bring out creativity and can help with change and even menopause. Browns and terracotta colours are grounding colours. These are ideal to use in an area where someone may need concentration and will help with a scattered mind. 

Metal Colours – These include all metals such as gold, silver, bronze and also the colour white. These are masculine and cooling. They are ideal to increase wisdom and knowledge. They work well to help to think clearly when having trouble making decisions. They are particularly good used in offices, drawing rooms, man’s cave or workshop. White is the colour of purity or untouched. It is ideal used in areas where you need a fresh open or even sterile look. There are some fantastic wall papers on the market which will bring in this element effectively.

Water Colours – This is blue and black. Water can flow very deep and therefore black is part of these tones. Black is extremely deep and indicates death and sorrow. It also absorbs heat and light so use sparingly in your décor. Black has a dramatic effect and can bring in depth where needed. Blues on the other hand can range from turquoise, indigo, cobalt, ultramarine, cerulean right through to baby blue. It is a cooling colour and can be ideal to use in hot areas to give the feeling of coolness. Blue is also good for communication and can enhance authority and times of transition. It can also be good for intuition. Blue is fantastic used in a meeting room, sunny room or an office.

Green – This is the wood element. Green is very relaxing (except lime green). These tones include moss green, forest green, duck egg green and mint. Green works well in a bedroom, studio or lounging room. Green should also be used in rooms of healing professions such as doctors, naturopaths, or massage rooms.  It is said to be avoided though if a bedroom of person who has the tendency to be jealous or envious (green with envy). Green is also the colour of truth, harmony and balance.
